Job Overview
We are seeking qualified Social Care Workers to join our dedicated team and make a real difference in the lives of the people we support, helping them live their best lives. This position may also suit an experienced Nurse. The role involves residential and respite care for children and adults with intellectual disability at Ability West's services.
Responsibilities
Provide residential and respite care in accordance with Ability West policies and Safety Statement.
Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the Service Manager.
Work positively with people presenting with behaviours that challenge; plan and implement specific approaches and programmes.
Teach specific skills (self‑help, domestic, kitchen, community, leisure, social skills) through individual plans.
Act as key worker; meet with and support families and multidisciplinary team; conduct home visits as required.
Administer, supervise, and record prescribed medication.
Guide and provide direction for Care Assistants as per professional practice.
Ensure the wellbeing of people we support and facilitate interpersonal relationships.
Perform personal care (dressing, washing etc.) and housekeeping tasks (cooking, shopping, cleaning).
Facilitate use of leisure time tailored to needs, emphasizing community integration.
Use person‑first language in communication and liaise with all staff grades.
Undertake driving duties in company vehicles or own transport.
Work a shift rota, including sleep‑in duties and night duty as rostered.
Maintain required records and reports for the Service Manager.
Implement safety precautions and adhere to HIQA standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
A professional degree (minimum level 7) in Applied Social Studies or relevant qualification.
CORU Registration, or in process of registration.
Previous experience working with people with intellectual disability or a similar field.
Full current driving licence with access to own vehicle.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem‑solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Motivated, energetic, enthusiastic personality.
Ability to advocate on behalf of people we support.
