Summary of Post We now seek a Clinical Research Nurse to join the team in the RCSI Interprofessional Community-engaged learning Student Led Services.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to become a key member of a dynamic research team in an innovative and progressive research and education environment.
Specifically, the duties of the post are: Research and Evaluation Responsibilities § Coordinate and implement the evaluation of student-led community health services using the RE-AIM framework, in accordance with approved ethics and governance arrangements.
§ Operationalise data collection across all RE-AIM domains, including: o Reach: documenting attendance, demographics, and access among underserved or marginalised populations.
o Effectiveness: supporting the collection of service-user feedback, experience measures, and perceived impact of the consultation.
o Adoption: capturing engagement of supervisors, students, and partner organisations.
o Implementation: monitoring fidelity to approved protocols, feasibility, and resource use.
o Maintenance: supporting assessment of sustainability, continuity, and scalability of the clinic model.
§ Implement informed consent processes for research participation in line with ethics approval.
§ Maintain accurate, complete, and secure research records in compliance with GDPR, RCSI data protection policies, and approved study protocols.
§ Support preparation of interim and final reports for internal governance, funders, and academic dissemination.
§ Implement research activities in accordance with approved ethics applications, RCSI research governance policies, and data protection requirements.
§ Ensure informed consent processes for participation in evaluation activities are conducted appropriately and documented accurately.
§ Maintain secure, accurate, and complete research records, including consent documentation and evaluation data, in compliance with GDPR and RCSI policies.
§ Support preparation of evaluation outputs, including interim reports, final reports, abstracts, and academic publications, under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
§ Support the delivery and ongoing refinement of the evaluation through high-quality implementation and data collection across clinic sessions.
§ Contribute to abstracts, conference submissions, and peer-reviewed publications arising from the evaluation, under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
Day-to-Day Clinic Operations and Continuity § Act as the consistent on-site coordinator for student-led clinic sessions at the Carmelite Community Centre.
§ Oversee clinic preparation, delivery, and close-down, including: o Room setup and layout o Equipment preparation, calibration checks, and safe storage o Availability of consumables and documentation § Coordinate student check-in, ensuring: o Attendance is recorded o Students are oriented to the site and clinic processes o Students understand their role, scope of practice, and escalation pathways § Coordinate service-user/patient check-in and flow, supporting a safe, respectful, and efficient clinic experience.
§ Ensure continuity and consistency across clinics delivered by rotating supervisors and student cohorts.
§ Act as the primary point of contact on clinic days for operational or clinical queries, escalating issues appropriately to the Principal Investigator or Deputy Dean.
§ Provide nursing expertise to support the safe and respectful delivery of community-based health consultations alongside student-led activities.
§ Act as the primary on-site point of contact for operational queries during clinic sessions, escalating issues in line with agreed protocols.
§ Support orientation and briefing of students and supervisors to clinic procedures, workflows, and approved scopes of practice.
§ Ensure continuity of clinic delivery across rotating student cohorts and supervisors Clinical Safety and Protocol Adherence § Support the safe delivery of clinic activities in line with approved Standard Operating Procedures, including those relating to: o Blood pressure measurement o Lipid and glucose testing o Pulse measurement o Sharps handling and clinical waste disposal § Monitor adherence to agreed scopes of practice and referral pathways.
§ Support appropriate escalation of clinical concerns in accordance with predefined protocols.
§ Ensure that incident reporting processes are followed where required, and that documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
§ Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and reflective practice within the clinic environment.
§ Uphold service-user confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times during clinic activities and associated evaluation processes.
§ Ensure that all clinic activities are conducted in accordance with approved standard operating procedures and professional standards of nursing practice.
§ Support safe handling of point-of-care testing materials and appropriate disposal of clinical waste in line with approved SOPs.
§ Identify and support escalation of clinical concerns in accordance with predefined referral and escalation pathways Governance, Quality Assurance, and Risk Support § Maintain clinic-level governance documentation, including: o Clinic logs and attendance records o SOP training acknowledgement records o Equipment and consumables logs § Support audits, reviews, and quality improvement activities related to clinic delivery.
§ Contribute operational insights to service refinement and risk mitigation discussions.
§ Work within established governance frameworks, recognising that strategic oversight and final accountability sit with the Principal Investigator and Deputy Dean.
Student and Interprofessional Support § Support students from multiple health professions to deliver safe, respectful, and person-centred care.
§ Reinforce interprofessional collaboration, role clarity, and appropriate professional behaviour in a community setting.
§ Model best practice in community-based, preventative healthcare.
§ Provide practical guidance to students during clinic sessions while remaining within the boundaries of the role (not acting as an assessor or academic supervisor).
Communication and Liaison § Liaise effectively with: o Academic leads and the Office of the DVCAA o Clinical supervisors o Community partners at the Carmelite Community Centre o Research and professional services colleagues as required § Communicate clearly and professionally with service users, students, and staff.
§ Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive clinic environment.
Professional Practice and Development § Maintain professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
§ Undertake mandatory training and relevant continuing professional development.
§ Maintain competence in clinical, research, and operational aspects of the role.
§ Participate in relevant meetings, briefings, and training related to the clinics and evaluation.
§ Coordinate and manage clinical research projects assigned to you in adherence with the research protocols and associated study standard operating procedures.
§ Coordination of a research study will include screening and recruitment of study participants, coordination of study visits and follow up visits, preforming study procedures, chart review, data collection and data entry, safety information reporting and communication with the study sponsor and wider research team.
§ Be competent in the clinical duties delegated to you for the purpose of the study and be to undertake all study specific training.
Qualifications – (Essential): § Successfully completed bachelor's degree level or above nursing education.
§ Successfully completed master's in advanced nurse prescribing § Must be registered with an appropriate division of The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
