Offer description

Applications are invited for an appointment as Techrete Lecturer in Façade Engineering at University of Galway.

University of Galway seeks to appoint an outstanding individual with established expertise to enhance its international leadership in climate-neutral and smart cities, aligning with Horizon Europe’s mission. This role will focus on façade engineering and support the university’s commitment to a low carbon future. It is part of a partnership between Techrete, the University of Galway School of Engineering, and the Construct Innovate Centre.

Techrete specializes in designing, manufacturing, and supplying precast concrete facades and collaborates with the university on developing innovative, sustainable building façade systems.

Opportunities include applying disruptive and smart technologies to improve infrastructure and building sustainability, such as (i) developing novel façade systems, (ii) reusing and refurbishing existing facades to reduce embodied carbon, (iii) creating low-energy healthy buildings, and (iv) developing buildings that generate and store clean energy. Research in these areas will significantly contribute to climate-neutral and smart city initiatives, including multidisciplinary approaches like using concrete facades as supercapacitors or integrating biological systems into facades (biofacades).

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, student supervision, and programme administration across undergraduate and postgraduate Civil Engineering programs. The School of Engineering offers postgraduate courses and micro-credentials in civil engineering and construction innovation, emphasizing sustainability, digital technologies, and modern construction methods.

The candidate is expected to develop an outstanding research program, collaborating across disciplines and research centers such as Construct Innovate, Ireland’s national research center for construction technology, which partners with over 90 companies and is led by the School of Engineering and Ryan Institute. The appointee should pursue major funding opportunities from agencies like the European Research Council (ERC), Research Ireland, and Horizon Europe, and foster collaborations nationally and internationally. Dissemination of research through peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and workshops is also expected.

The candidate shall possess:

* A primary degree and a PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
* A portfolio of peer-reviewed publications
* Experience in developing innovative research, collaborating with research centers, and a vision for new research directions
* Background in sustainable design, digital technologies, and engineering innovation
* Ability to teach modules on sustainable façade design, construction technology, and structural engineering
* A commitment to contributing to postgraduate programs and developing new courses
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a capacity for collaborative relationships
* Experience working with the engineering industry in teaching and research
