Charter Medical Private Hospital (CMPH) is a 77-bed surgical hospital located on the outskirts of Mullingar with four operating theatres and an endoscopy unit. We provide a wide range of surgical care across multiple specialties and offer 24/7 Stepdown, Minor Injuries, and Rapid Access services in collaboration with the HSE.
We are currently recruiting for a Pharmacy Technician (12 month FTC) to join our team.
Role Summary
The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the hospital pharmacy service. Working closely with the Senior Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists in the procurement, storage, distribution, and record-keeping of medications and intravenous fluids. The role also contributes to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Dispensing and Supply of Medicines
* Assemble medication requisitions and prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* Support the top-up medication distribution system to wards and departments.
* Ensure accurate receipt, checking, storage, and rotation of stock to maintain drug integrity and minimise wastage.
* Participate in purchasing and procurement of pharmaceuticals in line with hospital policies and relevant regulations.
2. Stock and Inventory Management
* Maintain accurate records of stock levels, usage, and expiry dates.
* Manage ward stock control and assist with regular stock audits.
* Identify discrepancies or issues with drug supply and report to the Senior Pharmacist promptly.
* Contribute to improving processes related to stock management and inventory efficiency.
3. Quality, Safety and Compliance
* Adhere to all pharmacy, hospital, and national regulations regarding the handling, storage, and disposal of medicines.
* Maintain awareness of security and confidentiality requirements within the hospital pharmacy.
* Report any unusual occurrences, complaints, or safety concerns related to drug usage or storage.
* Support compliance with internal audits, risk management, and regulatory inspections.
4. Teamwork and Communication
* Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
* Communicate clearly and courteously in all interactions, providing information and support where required.
* Participate actively in departmental meetings, service improvement discussions, and training sessions.
5. Professional Development
* Maintain up-to-date pharmaceutical knowledge through ongoing professional education and training.
* Participate in mandatory hospital training, including infection control, fire safety, and manual handling.
* Take responsibility for personal development and performance appraisal.
* Support and mentor new or junior staff members as required.
Essential Criteria - Knowledge/ Experience
Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post:
* Recognised Pharmaceutical Technician qualification (QQI Level 6 Diploma or equivalent).
* Post-qualification experience in hospital or community pharmacy setting.
* Up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical products and dispensing processes.
* Competent in using pharmacy software and computerised dispensing systems.
* Understanding of security, confidentiality, and safe handling of medicines.
* Demonstrated commitment to high standards of service, accuracy, and patient safety.
* Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a busy clinical environment.
* Strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills
