Elevate Data Center Design and Innovation with Your Engineering Expertise. We’re seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer who will transform data center infrastructure through strategic design and robust solutions.
In this role, you’ll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to develop resilient, sustainable, and innovative engineering designs that push the boundaries of technological infrastructure. The Civil/Structural Engineer in FSE‑CSA provides the global vision, rationale, and recommendations to leadership teams for the next‑generation data center civil design and remediation on new and existing sites, while ensuring that current civil systems meet performance and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Civil/Structural Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
You will be the go‑to engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed and will use your subject matter expertise in civil engineering to:
Work with a team of multidisciplinary professionals on a wide variety of conceptual design, build, and retrofit projects at existing data centers.
Create, review, and release data center civil/structural improvements and designs.
Drive refinements to the Basis of Design, product development, sustainability, and template specifications for civil/structural systems to support continuous improvement of future data center designs.
Serve as a technical advisor for projects, including review of underground services, water infrastructure designs and compliance, drainage solutions, foundations and retaining structures, roads, and structural systems.
Create, review, and release civil/structural design RFPs.
Manage external civil/structural design consultants through the audit, design, and implementation of projects while coordinating with internal engineering, construction, and other stakeholder teams.
Lead initiatives aimed at improving quality, schedule, and consistency or reducing costs for in‑flight and future data center construction and improvement projects.
Work on multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously without compromising safety and availability constraints.
Visit project locations in EMEA and provide subject matter guidance to partnering teams.
Positively influence external vendors/consultants’ designs and deliverables to meet requirements and timelines.
A day in the life
Amazon has a global presence; therefore 15–25% travel will be necessary. International support will be part of the job, requiring travel for site walks, field observations, and collaboration with international teams. Your day will be dynamic and impactful, involving collaborative design sessions, technical problem‑solving, and strategic planning across cross‑functional teams.
Basic Qualifications
Experience working in an engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment.
Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
Experience reading and editing construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or Structural Engineering with Civil expertise/experience).
Ability and willingness to travel internationally/domestically with short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
Experience in data center or mission‑critical facility design with multidisciplinary knowledge of mission‑critical systems, design process, pre‑construction requirements, and the construction process.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience working with customers to deliver exceptional service.
Experience with problem solving and disruptive innovation, developing technology programs and working across customer organizations.
Experience designing and/or managing both civil and structural engineering discipline projects.
