Job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Apply knowledge of fundamental geology to understand how rock types and structures impact groundwater occurrence and movement.
2. Interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to assess groundwater regimes and land contamination, often based on incomplete information.
3. Design groundwater flow, chemistry, and temperature models considering geological formations, surface water flow, and human influences.
4. Conduct environmental impact assessments of groundwater abstraction and management activities, including participation in oral hearings.
5. Design and oversee the installation of boreholes and sampling procedures.
Profile
Essential
1. Minimum 2.1 Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
2. Membership of the Institute of Geologists of Ireland or another relevant professional body.
3. Professional Geologist or Chartered Engineer status, or on track to achieve this within 6 to 12 months.
4. Strong knowledge of Irish and UK groundwater conditions and monitoring techniques.
5. Ability to perform and verify hydrogeological calculations and analyses.
6. Experience and skills in hydrogeology principles and practices.
7. Experience in hydrogeology reporting in line with standards.
8. Experience managing groundwater studies, including designing and implementing monitoring programs, planning aquifer tests, and conducting groundwater modelling.
9. Understanding of Eurocodes related to hydrogeology and geotechnical design.
10. Excellent communication skills and team collaboration ability.
11. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
12. Valid full driver's license.
Desirable:
1. MSc in Hydrogeology.
2. Knowledge of Department for Infrastructure, Irish Rail, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and statutory agency processes.
3. Familiarity with BIM and core concepts.
4. Experience with tendering and value engineering solutions.
