We are an Irish company that specialises in the design, development, manufacture, and service of hard-rock drilling solutions for applications around the world.
From our main manufacturing facility in Shannon, we coordinate with our state of the art factories in Australia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, South Africa, the UK, and the USA to provide our global network of support to meet customer demand worldwide. Our main product line produced in Shannon is DTH Hammers.
Role Overview
As an R&D Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and testing new and improved products, processes, and technologies. Working closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will take projects from concept through to production and testing, with a strong focus on CAD design, engineering analysis, and experimental validation.
Key Responsibilities
* Create and refine product designs using SolidWorks CAD software.
* Create dynamic stress simulations using ANSYS LS-DYNA, to improve component design and minimise stress concentrations.
* Create hammer performance simulations using Matlab, to aid with hammer design and analysis.
* Conduct and analyse experimental tests using data acquisition tools and instrumentation.
* Collaborate with manufacturing team to optimise designs for production.
* Document and present test results, design iterations, and project milestones.
* Manage and support R&D projects, from initial concept design to production release.
* Assist with Mincon Group GHG reporting, collaborating with Mincon ESG Team.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
* Minimum 3 years post-graduate industry experience in an R&D, product development, or similar engineering role.
* Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software).
* Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
* Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation for test measurements.
* Full driving licence and access to a car (occasional travel to test sites and suppliers may be required).
* Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
* Experience with MATLAB for data analysis, automation, or engineering calculations.
* Experience with data acquisition tools and instrumentation such as pressure sensors, position sensors etc.
* Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation tools.
* Knowledge of heat treatment processes and metallurgy.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).
