Overview

The Laboratory Team Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting the Cúram Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across UPMC Ireland. You will report to the EHR Clinical Stream Lead. This role leads the implementation of key laboratory applications, including the Pathology / Laboratory + BloodTrack Integration capabilities. The Laboratory Team Lead acts as the application champion at the group level and ensures alignment of system functionality with laboratory staff and laboratory workflow requirements. This role provides strategic and tactical leadership for the Laboratory workstream, ensuring alignment with laboratory operations, financial systems, and overall programme goals. The individual will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in laboratory functions to ensure a smooth, efficient, and sustainable transformation of laboratory and associated operational functions. Responsibilities

* Deliver the new EHR Laboratory Workstream within UPMC Ireland, including identification of stream stakeholders and establishment of the project team.
* Collaborate with other clinical workstream leads as required and manage end-to-end workflows, end-user experience, Laboratory Information Services, milestone tracking, and status reporting.
* Lead decision-making with the Clinical Stream Lead to resolve issues impacting the workstream; ensure go-live readiness and stabilisation support for laboratory services.
* Act as the primary liaison to laboratory service providers to ensure system design meets clinical documentation and workflow needs.
* Lead engagement sessions, adoption planning, training material development, and education for laboratory services and other end-users.
* Coordinate a cross-functional laboratory implementation team during the transition and facilitate regular workgroup meetings, documenting decisions and escalating risks.
* Support the planning and delivery of handover training to the future EHR BAU team members and collaborate with governance for ongoing optimization.
* Collaborate with MEDITECH/Expanse teams to design and validate laboratory workflows and ensure integration with financial processes and regulatory requirements.
* Oversee laboratory system configuration, data migration validation, testing (including UAT), and integration with other clinical systems to support seamless care delivery.
* Champion change management among laboratory staff and ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.
* Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.


Qualifications & Experience

* Bachelor\'s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
* Registration with CORU.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical laboratory operations, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
* Minimum 2 years of experience supporting or leading system implementations (preferably MEDITECH or similar ERP/EHR platforms).
* Familiarity with laboratory workflows, clinical safety practices, and quality reporting standards.
* Strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills; strong analytical thinking and interpersonal abilities.


Preferred

* Experience with EHR/LIS implementations and MEDITECH Expanse.
* Experience interfacing laboratory instruments with EHR systems.
* Knowledge of laboratory quality standards and regulatory requirements.
* Project management or health informatics certification (e.g., PMP, CPHIMS).
* Knowledge of clinical decision support and change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR).
