Role Overview
Zurich Dublin Technology Center is seeking a Platform Automation Engineer who will:
- Ensure the availability, performance, and monitoring of services and products, managing change and capacity to support reliability and scalability.
- Develop integration components, data models, and APIs to improve interoperability and streamline system functionality.
- Contribute to project and product planning, focusing on reliability, performance, and reducing operational toil.
Your Responsibilities
As a Platform Automation Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:
- Designing, coding, testing, and delivering software to automate manual operational tasks, reducing overhead and increasing efficiency.
- Troubleshooting priority incidents, facilitating post-mortems, and ensuring permanent resolution.
- Collaborating with Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) and application teams throughout the lifecycle to develop scalable, reliable software with minimal refactoring.
- Analyzing application and infrastructure data to support better Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Contributing to team delivery by tackling complex tasks to high standards, while actively learning and sharing skills.
- Balancing operational and engineering work for optimal team efficiency.
- Participating in rotational support coverage as needed.
- Coaching team members and leading teams when required.
Specializations
Monitoring/Observability
- Developing monitoring frameworks for end-to-end flow monitoring and alerting that is accurate and actionable.
- Creating automated solutions for software and product upgrades, change management, and releases to enhance stability and speed.
Data Protection/Backup/Recovery
- Implementing resilient data protection solutions, focusing on automated backup and recovery to safeguard assets.
- Building cloud-native mechanisms for data integrity, including cyber vault isolation and streamlined recovery processes.
Skills and Experience
Ideal candidates will have:
Automation Engineering
- Experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Amazon CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Honeycomb.
- Skills in developing automated tools and systems across multiple domains to improve reliability.
- Experience in deploying infrastructure components such as cloud platforms, containers, compute, storage, and networks.
SRE
- Experience troubleshooting system components and resolving complex issues.
- Contributing to performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
- Hands-on experience with automation, telemetry, alerting, and secure data handling across cloud and on-premises environments.
Business Knowledge
- Understanding of reliability and production management, ensuring high availability and stability.
- Risk-aware approach with knowledge of operational risks in financial institutions.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and proactive system enhancements.
Additional Experience
- Experience with system and software security (SSO, Kerberos, LDAP, Windows AD).
- Applying engineering principles to scalable, efficient operations.
- Proven automation track record to reduce manual work and improve workflows.
Additional Information
The primary work location is Dublin Technology Centre, Trident House, Blackrock. The position is based in Dublin, with occasional travel to other Zurich locations.
