As a Principal Software Engineer, you will become a core member of the Engineering Team helping to design and build Integration solutions based on industry best practices and providing expertise to the broader Engineering team.

Role profile: Specify and design large or complex software applications, components and modules.
Undertake impact analysis on major design options, make recommendations and assess and manages associated risks.
Evaluate software designs to ensure adherence to standards and identifies corrective action.
Specify prototypes/simulations to enable informed decision-making Design large or complex systems.
Review systems designs and ensures that appropriate methods, tools and techniques are applied effectively.
Contribute to development of system design policies, standards and selection of architecture components.
Plan and drive activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration Take technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development.
Contribute to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for software development.
Ensure that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures.
Advise on application security, licensing, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery needs.
Provide advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards.
Contribute to organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools.
Implement methods and tools at programme, project and team levels including selection and tailoring in line with agreed standards.
Line management of engineers, monitoring performance and working relationships and providing effective feedback to address individual issues.
Identify, evaluate and manage the adoption of appropriate tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for configuration management.
Contribute to the development of configuration management strategies, policies, standards, and guidelines.
Establish measurement objectives and the scope of measurement for functions, teams and projects.
Promote collaborative technologies, processes and behaviours to facilitate sharing of ideas and work-knowledge Determine development needs for a professional practice area Form, maintain and lead workgroups and individuals to achieve organisational objectives, participating in Line Management where appropriate.
Contribute to identifying new areas of capability improvement within the organisation which may be enhancements to skills, technology or processes Key criteria Education BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience 10+ years enterprise experience 10+ years software development experience covering the full development lifecycle working with business users and IT teams Technical experience Expert knowledge and experience in Java, Spring (Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data JPA, Spring Data JDBC, Spring Cloud Stream, etc.) Restful APIs and Unit testing frameworks (JUnit 5, Mokito) Expert knowledge of CI/CD, test driven and behavioural driven development practices, API development best practices and design patterns.
Experience with and solid understating of the following concepts: OAuth2/OIDC/ JWT, RabbitMQ/Kafka, LDAP, MongoDB/Oracle, Docker, Kubernetes, API Gateway and Event driven architectures Strong OOD and knowledge of design patterns especially with event driven architectures and integration patterns Proven track record working with architecture teams to design complex systems and build proof of concept solutions Experience supporting technical teams delivering enterprise grade software, working within agreed target dates and service levels Driving technical excellence, defining standards and guidelines and contributing to corporate IT strategies Qlik replicate/CDC experience desirable Interpersonal skills Excellent people and relationship skills with ability to negotiate and influence Problem solving with proven track record of achievements and innovation Solution focused and outcome orientated with proven track record of achievements and innovation Ability and desire to grow other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and other methods Passion for developing scalable well-designed software Demonstrated alignment to the Vhi values.
