Pet Shop Retail Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)
Location: Gary's Petworld, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
Contract: Full-Time, Fixed-Term (9–12 Months – Maternity Cover)

We are now seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Retail Manager to cover maternity leave and lead our store during this important period.
The Role
As Retail Manager (Maternity Cover), you will be responsible for the overall performance and smooth day-to-day running of the store while the current manager is on maternity leave. This is a hands-on leadership role involving retail operations, team management, customer service, animal welfare, and commercial performance.
You will inspire your team, maintain excellent standards of care and service, and ensure the continued success of the business throughout the maternity cover period.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee daily store operations, ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and safe environment
* Lead, motivate, and develop a team of sales assistants, supervisors, and animal care staff
* Deliver exceptional customer service and provide expert advice on pet care and products
* Maintain the highest standards of animal welfare, hygiene, and care at all times
* Manage stock levels, ordering, deliveries, pricing, and merchandising
* Drive sales and profitability by monitoring KPIs and implementing commercial strategies
* Recruit, train, schedule, and support staff to ensure excellent coverage and performance
* Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally and efficiently
* Monitor budgets, manage costs, and identify opportunities for improvement
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and animal welfare legislation
* Support community engagement, in-store events, promotions, and responsible pet ownership initiatives
Requirements
* Minimum 3 years' retail management or supervisory experience (pet retail desirable)
* Knowledge of pet care and animal welfare standards (or willingness to learn)
* Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* Proven ability to manage budgets, achieve sales targets, and drive store performance
* Comfortable using POS systems, computers, and stock management software
* Hands-on, enthusiastic manager with high standards and attention to detail
* Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
