Overview
Process Commissioning Engineer – Cork / Galway region.
The role covers site-based commissioning and optimization of water and wastewater treatment processes, with travel across multiple sites as required.
Responsibilities
Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing a
one team
culture.
Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
Support project delivery and process design teams in the development and preparation of process commissioning test documentation.
Support the development and commissioning of water and wastewater treatment processes, managing full lifecycle of the process project from raw water samples to optimizing chemical dose rates and managing treated water results.
Perform jar testing across varying raw water quality to determine optimum chemical provides and produce a process report on the data.
Set initial process setpoints into PLC/HMI/SCADA systems based on jar testing and laboratory data to achieve startup operation.
Provide initial care phase post-flow turn-on for new systems, monitoring alarms and responding in a timely manner.
Continue on-site testing and monitoring to ensure operation meets performance criteria; record adjustments and rationale.
Work with site operations/commissioning teams to optimize processes, improve water quality, and use chemicals efficiently while keeping plants within standards.
Capture data on PLC/SCADA and on-site and external laboratory testing; compile data during commissioning and validation and draft a Performance Report for client submission.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and optimization, including equipment such as screw presses, belt presses, plate presses, and centrifuges with chemical adjustments.
Hands-on involvement with treatment plants, including routine inspection, maintenance and calibration of online and handheld equipment.
Address queries or non-compliances arising from performance testing promptly.
Review sludge treatment and discharge processes and implement remedial actions to ensure discharge compliance.
Provide guidance for process improvement actions to optimize plant performance and cost-effectiveness while meeting quality objectives.
Introduce new processes, procedures and instructions for plant enhancements and guidance to operators.
Ensure a positive client experience, promoting collaboration and cooperation.
Take ownership of allocated projects, complete process optimization activities on time, and report progress to the Project Manager.
Support training and mentoring for junior staff and process operators to build high-performing teams.
Provide troubleshooting and fault finding for existing processes at water and wastewater facilities; compile information and prepare Site Assessment Reports.
Keep up-to-date with industry best practices and new technology for optimization and energy efficiency.
Suggest improvements to the commissioning process through lessons learned and innovative solutions for future projects.
Maintain CPD to stay informed of latest standards and technology.
Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
Minimum of a Level 7 Degree in an engineering qualification such as Chemical, Water/Wastewater, Environmental Engineering or similar with hands-on experience.
Experience in the process commissioning stage and troubleshooting of water and wastewater treatment processes.
Good working knowledge of treatment processes (e.g., filtration, clarification) and optimization opportunities.
Ability to sample and perform on-site laboratory tests.
Strong technical knowledge of chemical and biological water and wastewater treatment processes.
Ability to liaise directly with customers on commissioning activities and sign-off.
Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage time in a pressurized commissioning environment.
Ability to use initiative, problem solve, and adapt to issues during commissioning.
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Full Driving License.
