As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the Design Department, demonstrating strong technical capability while helping guide and develop the wider design team. You will work closely with Project Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, and Installation teams to ensure designs are delivered efficiently, accurately, and to the highest standards.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the creation of detailed 3D parts and assemblies using SolidWorksProduce complete manufacturing drawing packs, including drawings, BOMs, laser profiles, and work ordersReview and approve drawings and participate in structured design reviewsDevelop and implement design standards, processes, and best practicesPlan and coordinate daily design activities, providing technical guidance to team membersMentor and develop junior design engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvementWork closely with Project Engineers to ensure design requirements are met and projects are delivered on time and within budgetCapture and incorporate design changes arising during manufacturing, installation, or commissioningLiaise with customers and suppliers during design reviews and technical discussionsConduct site visits for surveys, information gathering, and customer engagement as requiredPromote a right-first-time design culture and ensure compliance with quality and legislative requirementsIdentify cost-saving opportunities and improvements in design and manufacturing processesSupport cross-functional teams with technical expertiseExperience & QualificationsDegree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)Proven experience in a senior mechanical design engineering role within a manufacturing environmentDemonstrated experience mentoring or leading design engineersStrong proficiency in SolidWorks (essential)Experience with AutoCAD 2D is advantageousSolid background in sheet metal and fabrication designExperience transferring bespoke designs into production environmentsKnowledge of food processing or regulated manufacturing industries is desirable but not essentialSkills & AttributesDetail-oriented with a structured, methodical approachStrong organisational and time-management skillsAbility to manage personal workload while supporting wider team prioritiesConfident problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindsetStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departmentsHigh level of professionalism and respect for established processesWillingness to travel occasionally and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, when required
