About your team:
We’re proud of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy has powered homes and businesses for nearly 40 years. Now, we’re more than gas and electric—through our household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of Ireland’s energy transition, strengthening energy security and helping customers prepare for a net-zero future.
About your role:
We seek a Senior Modelling Analyst for our Long Term Modelling team. This pivotal role involves delivering market forecasts for Ireland, from the near term to several decades ahead. You will engage directly with senior leadership, providing insights to shape strategy. Your work will guide Bord Gáis Energy through electricity sector transformations and towards net-zero goals. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical background, experience with forecasting under uncertainty, and a strategic mindset supporting a greener, fairer future.
The role focuses on developing and improving quantitative models, methodologies, and tools for Assets, Trading, and Bord Gáis Energy in wholesale gas and electricity markets. Responsibilities include optimising generation dispatch and asset valuation, using fundamental modeling (including Plexos) to develop scenarios assessing climate targets' impacts on Ireland’s power system, prices, and assets.
You will also stay updated on regulatory decisions shaping market design, analyze consultations on wholesale energy markets, support commercial contract origination and structuring, analyze competitor behavior, identify opportunities, and improve business processes. Data analysis using statistics to support modeling, maintaining documentation, and effectively communicating complex data to stakeholders are essential. Additional tasks as needed will also be part of your role.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* A degree in a quantitative or scientific field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or computer science.
* Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, especially price formation and Irish market operation.
* Excellent analytical skills, knowledge of numerical and statistical techniques, and experience applying these to real-world problems.
* Proficiency in manipulating and analyzing large datasets using Python, SQL, or similar languages.
* Experience with Plexos or other market scheduling tools is an advantage.
* Previous experience in a related role is highly desirable.
