Position Overview
Restructuring Lawyer – Legal Directorate, Operational Policy, Mandates and Non‑EU Operations Department (OPS‑POL), Restructuring, Funds and Venture Debt Division (RFV). This full‑time position at grade 5 offers a permanent contract. It is based at the Luxembourg headquarters of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and requires regular office presence.

Purpose
The Restructuring, Funds and Venture Debt Division deals with legal documentation and issues for debt restructuring and fund investments inside and outside the European Union, and venture debt. You will assist the Head of Division and Head of Department, together with other legal advisers, in providing legal support to operational directorates and in carrying out work related to all tasks within the division.
Operating Network
You will act under the authority of the Head of Division, in cooperation with the other lawyers of the RFV Division and in accordance with the priorities established by the Head of Division.
Responsibilities
Carry out work related to all of the division’s responsibilities and work independently on lending and financing operations.
Draft and independently negotiate legal documentation for lending and financing operations, including advising on structuring, drafting of documents, legal advisory support, conclusion of contracts, completion of all related legal formalities, and legal monitoring (post‑signature events, including restructurings).
Manage contracts and negotiations.
Prepare terms of reference for external counsel, liaise with and supervise their work when necessary.
Contribute to the formulation of legal policies in the division’s area of activity and make recommendations for the implementation of new methods and procedures.
Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent EIB externally.
Conduct legal research on matters and developments relevant to the Bank’s interests and offer informed legal advice.
Keep up‑to‑date with legal developments in legislation, regulations and jurisprudence relevant to the relevant region or domain, share knowledge, and implement related changes and improvements.
Qualifications
University degree in law (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor, preferably at Master level), and a qualification in law preferably of an EU Member State.
Minimum 5 years of professional experience relevant for the job in bank lending, gained with a law firm of international repute or an in‑house legal department of a financial or public institution.
Solid experience in bank lending and finance, and experience in restructuring is an advantage.
Significant experience in drafting and negotiating finance documentation in English; experience working in French and/or German is an asset.
Very good knowledge of standard computer tools.
Excellent knowledge of English and/or French; good knowledge of the other language. Proficiency in any EU language is an advantage.
