Duties Description: This Dentist 1 position is a direct service role. The incumbent will provide professional dental care for youth in the custody of OCFS by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. The Dentist 1 will perform a full range of dental duties related to the treatment of dental diseases or health problems requiring corrective, restorative, or preventive measures as per agency policies and procedures.Primary duties and responsibilities include:Conduct examinations of individuals' teeth and surrounding oral structures using x-rays, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic tools to identify irregular conditions.Treat dental diseases, injuries, and malfunctions of teeth and gums.Perform restorations of simple and compound cavities.Administer anesthetics.Perform oral surgery within professional qualifications.Extract teeth.Clean teeth by scaling calculus.Treat infections of teeth, mouth, and gums with appropriate medications or surgery.Additional responsibilities include:Maintaining detailed records of dental treatments.Advising individuals on dental health practices.Instructing and supervising paraprofessional dental staff in auxiliary duties.Additional duties and travel expectations will be discussed during the interview.Minimum Qualifications: Open to the Public. This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice dentistry in New York State is required.
