About the Position
We’re looking for a proactive and technically adept Field Service Engineer - Automation & Controls to become part of our Dublin-based team. In this embedded position, you’ll operate directly within a leading production facility, serving as an in-house specialist on automation and control systems.
Travel to other sites in Ireland when required.
You’ll be the key technical link for all control-related machine operations, driving equipment reliability, efficiency, and uptime (OEE). This role offers a mix of technical depth, problem-solving, and collaboration, ideal for engineers passionate about seeing their impact on cutting-edge manufacturing processes.
Main Duties
During Equipment Build:
* Partner with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement new automation systems.
* Build effective relationships with project and capital teams.
* Acquire detailed knowledge of client processes, products, and machinery.
* Hands‑on experience in PLC, HMI, servo drive, and diagnostic technologies.
* Support FAT, installation, and SAT activities through system integration phases.
During On‑Site Support:
* Act as the central liaison between the client’s team and internal service engineering.
* Provide technical training and mentoring to the customer’s maintenance personnel.
* Manage both warranty and post‑warranty service, upgrades, and modifications.
* Evaluate system data to enhance reliability and optimize performance.
* Identify root causes, fine‑tune control systems, and ensure production continuity.
* Maintain accurate documentation, schematics, and service logs.
What You’ll Need
* Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent background).
* Minimum of 3 years in automation or controls within complex manufacturing environments, ideally in Life Sciences or a similar regulated sector.
* Strong practical knowledge of Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs, including configuration and fault‑finding.
* Servo experience is required.
* Experience with industrial robotics (ABB, Fanuc) would be beneficial.
* Network experience using Ethernet/IP, Profinet and other industrial control/IT networks.
* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer‑first mindset.
* Competence with Microsoft 365; Salesforce knowledge is beneficial.
* Full driving license and willingness to travel occasionally across the US, Europe, and Canada.
Work Conditions
This is a site‑based role embedded within a client facility, requiring close cooperation with their technical teams. The environment is fast‑paced and practical, involving daily interaction with automated machinery and process systems.
Moderate physical activity may be required (standing, bending, or lifting up to 18 kg/40 lbs). Some exposure to factory‑floor conditions and noise should be expected.
