BACKGROUND
Butler Gallery, Kilkenny, is a leading contemporary art gallery and museum with a permanent collection and one of the finest exhibition spaces in Ireland. Dedicated to exhibiting Irish, emerging and major international artists, it promotes high artistic standards and the value of visual art to society.
The gallery’s programme of diverse exhibitions, events, courses, talks and workshops, attracts local, national and international audiences. A vital part of Kilkenny's cultural life, it enhances the Southeast region's appeal as a place to live, work, and visit.
Following the launch of its Strategic Plan 2025 – 2029 Butler Gallery is now seeking a Head of Development to create and lead the delivery of the associated strategic fundraising plan.
THE ROLE
In this key role, the Head of Development will lead on fundraising for Butler Gallery, securing private investment through corporate partnerships and philanthropic support. Together with the Director, you will ensure the long-term financial stability of the organisation, working closely with board members, colleagues and key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include the creation and implementation of a Strategic Fundraising Development Plan to drive sustainable, long-term growth and establish private investment as a cornerstone in the gallery’s income mix. The Head of Development will manage a collaborative approach to fundraising, build and oversee the prospect pipeline, establish robust processes and set ambitious annual and multi-year targets with the Director. They will bring the gallery’s impact, work and plans to life, securing and managing multi-year funding pledges and building relationships with companies, philanthropists, trusts and foundations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in income generation, stakeholder engagement and relationship management at a high level. While experience in the cultural sector is preferred, candidates with the required skills and experience from the voluntary, education or corporate sectors are also encouraged to apply.
