Clinical Pathologist / Medical Director – Hybrid – Dublin, Ireland
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Pathologist / Medical Director to provide medical and scientific leadership within a high-complexity clinical laboratory based in Dublin.
This hybrid role involves overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining the highest levels of quality and patient safety, and providing clinical guidance to support global clinical testing programs.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Clinical Pathology, Clinical Chemistry, or Biochemistry, and a passion for advancing laboratory excellence in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Oversight & Clinical Leadership
Provide medical and scientific oversight for laboratory testing and diagnostic activities.
Interpret and validate laboratory results while ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance.
Offer expert consultation on test selection, result interpretation, and clinical decision‑making.
Maintain the highest standards of patient safety and diagnostic integrity.
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
Ensure adherence to all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CAP).
Prepare for and lead laboratory inspections and audits.
Maintain thorough documentation and quality systems in line with best practices.
Quality Management & Continuous Improvement
Lead and enhance laboratory quality assurance and control programs.
Monitor key performance indicators and implement data‑driven improvements.
Develop and oversee procedures to address deviations, adverse events, or near‑miss incidents.
Operational & Strategic Leadership
Collaborate with laboratory management on strategic planning, resource allocation, and budget oversight.
Evaluate new testing technologies and instrumentation to improve service quality.
Support organizational growth through clinical innovation and operational excellence.
Requirements
Medical degree with Board Certification in Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or related specialty (e.g., Clinical Chemistry, Medical Microbiology).
Additional certification in laboratory medicine or as a Clinical Laboratory Director preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a high‑complexity clinical laboratory, including at least 2 years in a medical or scientific leadership role.
Proven understanding of regulatory frameworks and laboratory accreditation standards.
Strong experience in quality management, compliance, and patient safety programs.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Must be available to work onsite in Dublin three days per week.
