Job Description
The Environmental Officer manages the on-site wastewater treatment plant and advises the site on licence requirements. Responsibilities include ensuring compliant discharge, conducting daily and weekly monitoring, fieldwork, testing and surveys, collating and presenting environmental data, and auditing processes for efficiency and environmental impact. Environmental Officers typically work in small teams, reporting to the on-site General Manager and Group Environmental Manager at ABP Cahir HQ.
Work Activities
1. Operate and manage the site Waste Water Treatment Plant to ensure discharge of compliant effluent.
2. Perform daily sampling and testing on-site of pH, temperature, COD, ammonia, and nitrogen.
3. Collate data from daily WWTP records and liaise with management to ensure site compliance with the IE Licence.
4. Follow Standard Operating Procedures and complete record forms as part of the ISO 14001 management system.
5. Attend ISO 14001 and EPA unannounced site inspections.
6. Complete incident and complaints reports with the Group Environmental Officer for submission to authorities.
7. Prepare reports for Environmental Agencies and government bodies.
8. Report directly to the Environmental Manager and maintain the Environmental Management System.
9. Ensure legislative compliance by adhering to all applicable legislation.
10. Conduct internal audits of the site quarterly.
11. Organise contractors for tasks such as bund tank and pipeline testing, chemical purchasing, and other required activities.
12. Ensure the site only combusts fuels approved under the Greenhouse Gas permit.
13. Maintain compliance with the Greenhouse Gas and Site IE Licences.
14. Perform any other administrative duties as required by the Environmental Manager.
Qualifications
A primary degree in environmental and earth sciences, environmental engineering, geography, geophysics, or chemistry. Postgraduate degrees and specialisation in particular fields are advantageous for career progression in environmental consultancy.
