Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist(SALT) in RehabilitationBlarney Rehabilitation Unit and any building within the Mercy University ComplexPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesBe responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment/intervention programmes for patients with communication and/or disorders of oro-pharyngeal swallowing function and feeding ability in the Rehabilitation service.In conjunction with the Speech and Language Therapist Manager, lead service planning and development by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users.Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team.Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently regarding clinical priorities and use of time.Be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service and professional standards.Communicate verbally and/ or in writing results of assessments and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.Work within the multidisciplinary team ethos and liaise with staff to ensure that effective communication takes place at all times.Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences etc. as designated by Speech and Language Therapist Manager.Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for leading out on the development and maintenance of standards / strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.Seek advice and assistance with any assigned duties in line with principles of evidence-based practice and clinical governance.Incorporate national and international Evidence Based Speech and Language Therapy Practice into their practice.Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.Operate within the scope of Speech and Language Therapy practice within Ireland and in accordance with local guidelines.Will adhere to the Ethics for Speech and Language Therapists from CORU and the IASLT.Serve on and advise such committees that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical specialty.Act as resource within the Rehabilitation service to other members of the multidisciplinary team and provide specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT.Undertake other appropriate responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post as specified by the Speech and Language Therapy Manager.Eligibility CriteriaHold a Speech and Language Therapy qualification recognised by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.Be registered on the Speech and Language Therapists Register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.All candidates must have 5 years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which 4 years full time (or equivalent) must be consecutive in the required area of specialism.All candidates must demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism.Full Job Spec is available on requestClosing Date: 1pm on Friday 24th October 2025MUH reserves the right to create a panel for this post from which permanent, fixed term and specified purpose vacancies of a full or part time duration may be filled.
