Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Role at TN-Ireland
Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our global engineering team at Amazon Web Services in Dublin, Ireland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and continuously innovating our rapidly expanding data center footprint, ensuring resilient and cost-effective mechanical services systems that achieve world-class uptime for our customers.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with internal teams to understand user requirements, manage design consultancy firms, and collaborate with local utilities and Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
You will also be responsible for managing change, versioning, and configuration control, working with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems, and reviewing and approving equipment submittals.
A day in the life of this role involves innovation, design, and leading design consultants for new AWS regions projects, delivering designs from concept to permit and construction document set, and directly supporting construction and being part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead design and development of mechanical systems for our data centers
2. Manage design consultancy firms and local utilities
3. Ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes
4. Manage change, versioning, and configuration control
5. Collaborate with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems
6. Review and approve equipment submittals
7. Support construction and be part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission critical air and water cooling HVAC design
2. Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
3. Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction
4. Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Chartered Engineer with Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
2. Experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design such as Pharmaceutical, Hospital or Semi-Conductor projects
3. Understanding of BIM & CFD modelling
4. Previous consultant negotiation and management skills associated with design, construction, and project execution
5. Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects
6. Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. Knowledge of building codes and regulations
