We are seeking an experienced PICW Level E to lead and oversee civil construction activities within live and system-connected substations. This role carries significant responsibility and authority, ensuring all trenching, ducting, cabling, foundations, and related civil works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with ESB standards.
As the Person in Charge of Works, you will manage civil crews on site, coordinate subcontractors, conduct safety briefings, enforce PPE requirements, and maintain strict adherence to rules and electrical-network protocols. You will also act as PSCS, ensuring overall site safety, planning, quality control, and client liaison throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and supervise civil construction teams in live and de-energized substation environments
* Plan works, review method statements, and ensure authorizations and safety protocols are upheld
* Coordinate subcontractors and manage daily site operations with full decision-making authority
* Conduct quality inspections, maintain documentation, and liaise with the client representatives
* Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks and continuous monitoring
Qualifications & Experience:
* Level 8 Degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* PICW Level E certification with ESB authorization
* 7–10+ years' experience in civil/electrical infrastructure, ideally within 38kV–400kV substations
* Strong knowledge of networks, safety rules, and construction standards
* Safe Pass, Manual Handling, and preferably FETAC Level 6 MSIC (Managing Safety in Construction)
