Embodied Carbon in Buildings Specialist (Dublin) Location: Dublin (Hybrid) Salary: €74,500 per annum Tenure: 18-Month Fixed Term Contract We are seeking a technical expert to join a leading energy authoritys Technical Department.
This is a high-impact role dedicated to Irelands Climate Action Plan.
You will be a key member of the Embodied Carbon Team, tasked with implementing the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
Specifically, you will lead the development of the methodology to calculate the life-cycle Global Warming Potential (GWP) of all new buildings in Ireland.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks Methodology Design: Establish and refine the national methodology for calculating life-cycle GWP for new buildings as per Article 7(2) of the EPBD.
System Integration: Work closely with the Building Energy Rating (BER) team to ensure GWP disclosures are seamlessly integrated into energy performance certificates.
Rating Scheme Development: Contribute technical expertise to the creation of a new national embodied carbon building rating scheme.
Data & Analysis: Oversee complex data extraction and analysis to support the Technical Standards and Quality divisions.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all frameworks align with the Construction Products Regulation and international standards (EN 15978, EN 15804).
Stakeholder Engagement: Translate complex technical data into actionable guidance for industry stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
Essential Requirements: Minimum Level 7 (NFQ) degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mech, Env), Architecture, Sustainability, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
Minimum 4+ years of directly relevant experience in building/structural design or Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Demonstrated experience in data extraction and analysis.
Strong project management and knowledge of business process development.
Excellent communication (written and oral) and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
Nice to have: A post graduate qualification in Environmental Science, Architecture, Sustainability, or similar disciplines.
Familiarity with the Building Energy Ratings and the BER methodology.
Familiarity with building sustainable design, construction and operations standards certification systems such as: LEED and/or BREEAM.
Knowledge of the IGBC Indicate Methodology, Ecoinvent, Open LCA, Sima Pro or Ga Bi.
Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) of building to EN 15978.
Familiarity with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for construction product to EN 15804 and the ILCD+EPD data format for both EPDs and Generic Data.
Familiarity with ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and/or ISO 14025 would be advantageous.
Knowledge of BIM, Revit and/or ICMS.
Knowledge of file formats such as JSON, XML and CSV.
Experience or knowledge of delivering positive customer experiences.
