Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is registered to accommodate 32 male or female residents who require long-term residential care or who require short-term respite, convalescence or palliative care.
The nursing home is located in a residential area a short walk from the town of Ballymote. The building is single-storey and is decorated in a home-like way. The home has safe garden areas that are currently located and cultivated with raised beds and shrubs to make them interesting to residents.

Job Description
Job Title: Healthcare Assistant
Location: Ballymote Community Nursing Unit, Carrownanty, Ballymote, F56EP48
Report to: Director of Nursing
Job Purpose: To enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualized holistic care, promoting independence, and communicating effectively with the resident and the multidisciplinary team.
Main responsibilities

Deliver quality care to each resident.
Assist residents with intimate and personal care, based on assessed needs.
Assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriate.
Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet.
Assist residents with mobilizing.
Assist with diversional therapy (i.e., activities, movement to music, etc.).
Assist nursing staff with all resident care, including the care of the dying.
Be familiar with infection control practices.
Report any changes in residents' condition to senior nurse on duty.
At night, ensure residents' sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise and bright lights.
Document required records in the course of duty.

Health & Safety

Due to the high dependency of the residents, close supervision day and night is vital for their safety and well-being.
Be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Report any faulty equipment (e.g., lifting hoists, bath hoists, etc.) to your immediate supervisor.
Familiarize yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets and handling belts.
Use hoists only with a second staff member present.
Ensure you understand policies and procedures regarding evacuation and fire.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Have FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training.
Have previous experience caring for elderly residents, preferably in a residential setting.
Adopt a person-centered approach to care planning.
Experience working collaboratively in a team setting.
Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Have a genuine interest in caring for older people.
Show a positive attitude and be open to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Participate in care planning with nursing and other relevant staff.
Be proficient in manual handling and patient moving skills.
