St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities.
Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. The Foundation provides services to children and adults, through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region.
We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area; such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow, in Limerick; Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff Croom Dromcollogher, Granagh Kilmallock, and Liskennett. Working hours: hours per week including weekend work. Location: Initial location - Liskennett Farm, Granagh Co.
Limerick (All SJF staff are liable for transfer to other locations). Requirements: A qualification in Equestrian Studies/BHSAI/ Horseboy (desirable) or other equivalent equine qualification A full clean driving licence to include W, B, and BE or C1(essential for pulling horse trailers An ability to autonomously supervise the delivery of an equine programme utilising the resources of both professional staff and trained volunteers Informal enquiries to Helen Picha (Liskennett Equine Therapy Co-ordinator) on Job Goal: To organise, co-ordinate and autonomously deliver an Equestrian programme for adults/children with intellectual disabilities and/ or autism which will meet their needs, interests and abilities and which offers them choice. Equine programme delivery:To be responsible for the organisation, coordination and implementation of the equine programmes as directed by the Co-Ordinator/Senior Supervisor.Encourage and facilitate the participation of as many service users as possible in an Equestrian ProgrammeTimetable programmes in an organised manner in consultation with Service Users/Nurses/Supervisors/Teachers and in conjunction with the Manager/Assistant Manager of Adult ServicesTo assist with the preparation of Service Users for any equine activities or games. Equine Welfare: Attend to daily stable management duties, including mucking out, feeding, watering etc Be responsible for reoccurring takes relating to the order of feed and bedding, routine farrier visits, tack maintenance, manure disposal etc Make recommendations on all purchases of equipment for the Equestrian Centre and farm Be responsible for the maintenance of all equipment used during equestrian sessions, the equestrian yard, farmlands and farm equipment Clean, disinfect and maintain to a standard set by management equine accommodation, yards exercise areas and paddocks, feed room, tack room, laundry and storage facilities, staff tack and rugs, including maintenance Follow training programs as appropriate to individuals horses, including earning trust, leading in hand and basic stable manners, lunging and long reining, breaking, schooling and riding Carry out health checks on equines, including visual observation and physical inspection of body conditions for signs of ill health or abnormalities.
Taking temperature, pulse and respiration rates Administering wormers and other treatments and medications as directed Be responsible for the care of the horses in compliance with animal welfare legislation General duties: Assist the Equine Therapy Co-ordinator and Senior Supervisor with the efficient management of the centre and the delivery of programmes To maintain the Equine Therapy Centre in a clean and orderly manner To drive the Foundation's transport as required to include jeeps, horse trailers, vans, lorries etc To attend events that showcase the equine skills of our service users and the benefits of equine therapy.
