A Day in the Life
Medtronic is hiring a Quality System Director. The role is for a management and supervisory professional with one or more employees who focus on tactical, operational, and some strategic activities within a specified area. Level six is typical, with six or more direct reports. The majority of time is spent overseeing responsibilities, managing performance, developing talent, communication of business and operational developments, planning, and prioritizing. Goal achievement is accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A key responsibility of the role is managing people, including mentoring, coaching staff, providing leadership to ensure prioritization of initiatives, conducting performance reviews, and managing towards departmental goals.
Responsibilities
* Provide oversight for the development and maintenance of quality programs, systems, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with policies and that performance and quality conform to established internal and external standards and guidelines.
* Provide expertise and guidance in interpreting policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, and internal regulations to assure compliance.
* Work directly with operating entities to provide process analysis oversight on a continuing basis to enforce requirements and meet regulations.
* Lead audit and inspection preparation, resolve audit and inspection findings, and liaise with auditing groups and inspectors through all stages of audits.
* Prepare reports and/or necessary documentation (e.g., Corrective and Preventative Actions) and provide them to applicable stakeholders, both internal and external.
* Coordinate legal requests in support of government investigations or litigations.
* Ensure quality assurance programs and policies are maintained and modified regularly.
* Facilitate uniform standards worldwide and enable best practice sharing, thereby fostering the achievement of the company’s mission globally.
Required Knowledge and Experience
* Autonomy: Manage a department or small unit that includes multiple teams led by managers and/or supervisors; provide motivational leadership and technical direction with minimal supervision.
* Organizational Impact: Lead the development of the strategy for the department or business area, ensuring alignment with company goals; hold managerial authority to make large business decisions and some strategic decisions.
* Innovation and Complexity: Drive innovation across the business area, encouraging best practice and knowledge sharing; significantly improve or adapt own department’s processes, systems, products, or services.
* Communication and Influence: Develop long‑term strategic relationships and alliances with key internal and external stakeholders; communicate and brief senior or executive leadership on ongoing operations and strategic initiatives.
* Leadership and Talent Management: Direct a department, broad functional area, or geography, including multiple teams; determine supervisory relationships, create workforce and staffing plans, and authorize hiring, firing, and job description management.
* Broad management and leadership knowledge to lead multiple job areas with detailed functional expertise in a specific discipline.
