About the Role:
Key Responsibilities of a Senior Mechanical Estimator include leading the preparation of detailed, competitive mechanical cost estimates.
Tasks Include:
* Interpret technical drawings and specifications for accurate quantity take-offs
* Analyse and allocate tender documentation within the estimating team
* Obtain and negotiate supplier quotes to ensure best-value procurement
* Evaluate tender submissions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance
* Drive value engineering and cost optimisation strategies pre-tender
* Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and pricing norms
* Collaborate with commercial, contracts, and delivery teams for effective handovers
* Support live projects with cost tracking, budgeting, and reporting
* Prepare and coordinate claims, variations, and final accounts with PMs
* Attend site visits and client meetings as necessary
Requirements:
* Proven experience in mechanical estimating, ideally in the M&E sector
* Relevant degree or certification preferred (QS, Building Services, etc.)
* Strong knowledge of HVAC, pipework, plumbing, and mechanical systems
* Commercially aware with excellent cost analysis and negotiation skills
* Proficient in estimating tools (e.g. CostX, Trimble) and Microsoft Office
* Strong ability to interpret technical documentation
* Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills
* Trade qualification (e.g. plumbing or pipefitting) advantageous
Preferred Qualifications:
* A relevant degree or certification in QS, Building Services, or a related field
* Experience working in the M&E sector
