Location of Post: Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is a major academic teaching hospital with a Dietetic Service across two sites (UHG and MPUH). We are a growing team of 26wte approved Dietitian posts, providing care across various diagnostic groups including radiotherapy, haematology, oncology, stroke, gastroenterology, elderly care, diabetes, obesity, general medicine, surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, nutrition support, neurology, renal, critical care, maternal health, gynaecology, respiratory, cardiology, orthopaedics, maxillofacial surgery, emergency, trauma, urology, CF, paediatrics, and neonates.
We have a structured basic grade rotation and are a Practice Education site for the University of Limerick. Our department offers relevant training opportunities, supports CPD, and operates flexible hours promoting work-life balance. Internal re-assignment is facilitated according to departmental guidelines.
Current vacancy: There is a 0.3 WTE Clinical Specialist Dietitian vacancy in Paediatrics, permanent. This is a new opportunity to develop a paediatric allergy service at GUH.
The 0.3 WTE Dietitian will initially be based at UHG, with cross-site working required as OPD services develop at MPUH. The post may involve attending clinics at MPUH or virtually.
The post-holder will collaborate closely with the Paediatric Team to develop care pathways, work with the Paediatric Consultant in Allergy, and the clinical nurse allergy specialist (CNS). They will conduct joint sessions and provide specialist support in clinics, with opportunities for upskilling, shadowing, and attending relevant conferences.
This role involves working with all Paediatric dietitians at GUH, including neonatology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, oncology, neurology, endocrinology, neurodisability, congenital heart disease, and infant feeding clinics, providing inpatient and outpatient cover.
The team comprises 6 dietitians: 0.7wte Clinical Specialist Paediatrics, 1wte senior general paediatrics, 1.25wte senior neonatology, 0.4wte senior cystic fibrosis, and 1.5wte senior diabetes dietitians.
The successful candidate may work across various service areas as needed.
A panel may be created for future vacancies of similar nature.
Candidates must demonstrate:
1. Depth and breadth of experience in providing dietetic care to paediatrics.
2. Experience in continuous professional development relevant to the role.
3. Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, practice development, teaching, and research.
