Theatre Staff Nurse - UPMC Kildare
Location: UPMC Kildare Hospital.
Job type: Fixed Term.
Overview of Role
Provide high quality, patient-centered care in the theatre department across multiple specialties (orthopaedic, general, ophthalmology, gynae, ENT, pain management, urology, vascular).
Support multidisciplinary team, mentor staff, contribute to evidence-based practice and clinical audit.
Responsibilities and Duties
Clinical Responsibilities
Deliver the highest standard of patient care.
Act as preceptor and mentor for students and new staff.
Collaborate with nurse education departments to support student learning.
Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
Assist the theatre manager and director of nursing in operational responsibilities.
Identify and discuss patient and nursing needs with consultants and team.
Maintain patient safety and uphold standards of care.
Apply pre-assessment principles and related protocols.
Use NMBI publications such as Scope of Practice Framework and Code of Professional Misconduct.
Maintain professional registration and annual HR verification.
Keep current knowledge of policies: Clinical risk reporting, Occupational Health, Facilities Management, Patient Moving and Handling, Resuscitation, Health and Safety, Financial & Budgetary Controls, Patient Complaints, Falls Management programme.
Promote accreditation standards and departmental policies.
Develop IT skills for clinical systems.
Report accidents, incidents, or complaints per hospital guidelines.
Coordinate patient bed allocation with Scheduling Team.
Support evidence-based practice through research and audit.
Maintain role as a positive role model and uphold hospital ethos.
General Responsibilities
Mentor clinical and nonclinical staff.
Develop effective teamwork and communication.
Support unit manager and director of nursing operational duties.
Ensure knowledge of ABA publications and stay compliant with laws and regulations.
Facilitate IT system usage and data entry (Isoft, Lab Information System).
Risk assess unit environment for safety.
Liaise with scheduling for patient bed and theatre slot allocation.
Participate in professional accountability, research, and development activities.
Provide a supportive learning environment for staff development.
Quality & Audit
Participate in clinical audit and research, providing written reports.
Assist in local audits for accreditation.
Collaborate with Quality and Patient Safety team.
Health and Safety
Uphold UPMC Kildare Hospital fire, infection control, and health and safety regulations.
Identify potential risks and follow incident reporting procedures.
Observe general duty of care for staff, visitors, and patients.
Qualifications & Experience
Registered General Nurse with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Minimum 2 years post-registration theatre experience (essential).
Paediatric experience essential.
Evidence of ongoing CPD.
Relevant theatre qualification desirable.
Salary
€37,****** – €53,****** per annum based on a 37-hour work week.
