Job Title: Maintenance PlumberReporting To: Head of Facilities Management / Assistant ManagerJob Summary: To ensure that all plumbing and mechanical systems and repairs are to the highest quality and report anything abnormal to the Head of Facilities Management / Assistant Manager. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and EthosJob Purpose: This role is in place to ensure that all plumbing requirements are carried out to the highest standards with minimal disruption to the hospital. Your main duties will be to undertake general Plumbing/Mechanical maintenance on a day-to-day basis. Your secondary duties are to check plant equipment daily, to ensure its smooth running and effective use to minimise disruption to the hospital. You will also be required to carry out non-mechanical maintenance from time to time.Responsibilities:Carry out repairs, maintenance and installation to all primary plumbing systems includingHeating and hot water systemsDomestic plumbing fixtures such as toilets, sinks, taps, showers.Domestic hot and cold water fixtures, fittings and distributionMains water connections and distribution, including fire hydrants.Internal and external drainage, (storm and foul)RO (Reverse Osmosis) equipment supporting laboratory and CSSD servicesWater treatment systems (softening, copper/ silver ion etc)Support water sampling collections.To be the Authorised Person on medical gases (when appropriate training has been received).Escort and work alongside 3rd party service providers as required.To provide on-call support to the Hospital after hours, as required.To ensure legionella checks are carried out regularly and all steps are taken to ensure negative results.Complete remedial and corrective actions to ensure water quality and safety and prioritise patient safety.To provide feedback to the local Head of Department on completion of jobs and advise the FM Management if there is a problem in completing a job.To follow in-house policies, procedures, and guidelines.To ensure high standards of work and good housekeeping.To ensure that work areas are secure at the end of the day.To carry out day to day maintenance duties, which are assigned to you.Support continuous development and improvement of infrastructure by advising the managers and capital project design teams.To assign duties to appropriate staff when on annual leave and advise the FM ManagementTo ensure work area is tidy at all times and appropriate warning signs and barriers are erected. To comply with Health & Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices and a safe working environmentTo implement quality standards ensuring that a quality service is provided all times.Co-operate and assist, as required by the Head of Facilities Management / Assistant Manager, with future development/expansion programmesTo undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.Essential Skills /Takes ownership of the plumbing function, delivering a high quality of work.Shows initiative, demonstrating best practice across safety, maintenance standards, quality and professional conduct.Ability to plan work proactively, prioritising effectively, and making sound decisions considering urgency vs importancePerson SpecificationQualificationsHave satisfactorily completed a FÁS approved apprenticeship or have equivalent Plumbing craft certificationHave good technical knowledge and hold recognised crafts grades qualifications at senior trade or equivalent levelEssential ExperienceHave a minimum of five years satisfactory experience, after completion of apprenticeship, as a PlumberDesirable ExperienceHave experience of working across multiple types of plumbing and mechanical servicesPossess a good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and its implementationPrevious experience working in a live hospital.Previous experience working on Medical gas systems.Essential SkillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsWide knowledge of plumbing and Mechanical systems is essential to this role.Experience working with Copper, Marley, ABS and Chemical resistant pipeworkUnderstanding of Legionella and basic water quality and safety.Basic computer skills.Desirable SkillsKnowledge of RO plant and equipment.CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS FRIDAY 26TH SEPTEBMER 2025Bon Secours Health System is an equal opportunities employer.
