Marymount University Hospital & Hospice's Specialist Palliative Care Service is now accepting applications for the July 2026 Registrar Rotation (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract).
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated, consultant-led multidisciplinary team providing inpatient, outpatient, and community specialist palliative care services across the region. The post is primarily based at Marymount University Hospital & Hospice, with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across several acute hospitals in Cork, including South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, Mallow General Hospital, and Bantry General Hospital. This rotation offers Registrars a valuable opportunity to gain comprehensive experience within a highly regarded specialist setting. The role provides exposure across multiple healthcare environments, allowing Registrars to work alongside expert colleagues and develop advanced clinical, communication, and leadership skills in palliative medicine.

Essential Qualifying Criteria
* Full registration in the General Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland
* Strong communication skills, demonstrated in both written and oral formats.
Desirable Criteria
* Full valid driving licence and access to own transport.
* Previous within the Irish healthcare setting.
* Previous experience in palliative care or in a related specialty area.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Registrar will be primarily based in the inpatient unit, with potential commitments to the Community Palliative Care Team and acute hospital settings. Key duties include:
* Admission and ongoing care of patients under consultant supervision.
* Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and other NCHDs within the unit.
* Providing advice and support to MDT colleagues.
* Liaising with relevant medical and allied health professionals across internal and external settings.
* Demonstrating flexibility in work practices and cross-covering colleagues when required.
* Participating in the on-call rota as scheduled.
* Attending clinical sessions at Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, and South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.
* Taking a senior role during ward rounds, including presenting cases and contributing to clinical decision-making.
* Ordering and managing appropriate diagnostic tests.
* Participating in audit, research, and teaching as required by the Consultant team.
* Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records, in compliance with local and national standards.
* Using relevant IT applications and participating in committees or meetings as required.
