Cork Builders Providers was founded in 1990 and has since become one of the most significant builders’ providers sites in Ireland. The brand has grown to offer a complete range of construction products across all sectors of the industry from building materials to DIY supplies. CBP operates from 2 locations in Cork city and provides expert service and a diverse product range and leverages brands within the Chadwicks Group.
Role Overview
The Commercial Director is responsible for ensuring Cork Builders Providers is positioned to deliver on our business goals by working with the Managing Director to establish clear strategic priorities and driving execution effectiveness. The role holder will report directly to the Managing Director and is empowered to optimise how the business operates through the identification and prioritisation of key initiatives in the areas of commercial strategy, innovation, processes and relevant systems.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Commercial Acumen
Supporting the MD in providing strategic direction to ensure effective, efficient retail operations across two locations.
Lead the development and execution of commercial strategies to drive both B2B and B2C growth.
Working with MD on strategies to drive revenue and margin targets ensuring strong financial performance across the brand.
Lead planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to support long‑term business viability.
Drive continuous improvement across the sales operations, focusing on sales management efficiency, productivity and profitability.
Collaborate with the Chadwicks Group Merchant Division to align Sales leads, optimise cross‑functional working, and enhance profit performance.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and take the lead in driving a safety first culture, contributing to ongoing policy and process development.
Change Leadership & Business Transformation
Lead and implement change initiatives as required that ensure the business remains competitive and market‑relevant.
Support the Group development of digital strategy and evolving/emerging routes to market.
Take a continuous improvement approach to assessing the market and customer requirements, regularly analyse competitive landscape in order to drive strategy. Actively contribute to the development of alternative commercial solutions.
Customer, Market & Supplier Focus
Gather and report on relevant data to ensure data led decision making from a commercial perspective i.e. customer insights/market assessments to consistently inform strategic decision‑making.
Take a pro‑active approach to the development of sustainable relationships with key customers and suppliers to enhance commercial outcomes.
People Leadership & Culture
Lead, support and develop colleagues through setting clear objectives and drive a high‑performance culture.
Foster a culture of high colleague engagement, motivation, responsibility and accountability.
Champion our inclusive culture and pro‑actively support diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Coach and develop direct reports ensuring ownership of development inclusive of defining performance enablement goals, development discussions and talent/succession planning.
Sales and Customer Relationship Management
Oversee all sales related strategic sales and customer related initiatives. Managing the development of CRM systems.
Managing key accounts and customer acquisition and retention strategy.
Additional Responsibilities
Complete any other duties reasonably requested by the Managing Director or Group Leadership Team.
Preferred Profile
Proven high performing and high potential commercial leader with a solid track record in stakeholder management, innovative commercial strategy and delivering compelling results.
Proven ability to lead through influence and form strong and collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Strategic Leadership - Solid strategic and commercial acumen coupled with a practical pragmatic approach.
10+ years of experience at senior level, preferably in the construction industry or similar industry or discipline.
Commercial functional knowledge.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to drive commercial change in a large people‑centred organisation.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders throughout the wider business.
Desirable
Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering.
Masters/MBA or other advanced educational achievements.
Experience of participating in and networking in Trade Associations.
Knowledge of the building materials market or construction market in the Munster area.
