The appointed General Surgeon will have administrative duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department or Clinical Director.
They will participate in the development of, and undertake, all duties and functions pertinent to the Consultants area of competence, as set out within the Clinical Directorate Service Plan and in line with policies specified by the Employer and NCCP Guidelines.
Responsibilities include caring for and treating patients under their charge and maintaining clinical autonomy relating to patient management and care.
Additionally, they will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate discharge planning, continuity of care, and specific care requirements.
They will also provide consultation services in their designated area of expertise, alternating with other consultants and acting on their behalf during short-term absences.
Furthermore, they will support implementation of standards providing safe quality care, timely diagnosis, and focused treatment according to prescribed protocols and international best practice.
* Clinical Care: Demonstrate ability to provide high-level clinical care according to statutory and regulatory bodies' standards.
* Communication: Illustrate high verbal and non-verbal skills to effectively communicate with patients, colleagues, and hospital staff.
* Administration & Management Skills: Demonstrate satisfactory proficiency to manage staff and services, interact with hospital management structures, and lead/supervise clinical work.
* Organizational Awareness: Show knowledge and understanding of healthcare organization structure and governance.
* Continuing Education: Demonstrate a proven record of undertaking Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Key Requirements:
Surgical research experience, Irish Medical Council compliance.
