This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Job Description
Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form. Disability Support involves working with adults with physical and sensory disabilities as they develop skills to live more independently. The Disability Support Assistant will work with the tutor and students to establish how best to accommodate each student. They will shadow the tutor in providing these supports and, as they gain confidence and experience, the Disability Support Assistant will help individual students by scribing, note‑taking and assisting students with practical tasks such as cookery, shopping and using public transport. The participant will become familiar with the day to day running of a training programme, assisting to develop individual learning plans, tailoring training to individual needs and providing support to students. Through this work, the Disability Support Assistant will learn new skills in developing and implementing activities and supporting students in carrying out these activities. They will be trained in the use of equipment and health and safety procedures in the workplace. They will be instructed in how best to support individual learners as they develop their skills and this will enhance communication, interpersonal and IT skills. The Assistant will be assigned a Mentor to ensure a positive work experience.
