From expert consultations, diagnostic testing to specialized treatments, we will support women through their healthcare journey.Role PurposeThe role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of nursing practice. As a key member of the frontline team, the general registered nurse will demonstrate strong clinical skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital and centre. The position requires a collaborative and supportive approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the implementation of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.Knowledge/ExperienceBe registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBIHave at least two years recent relevant post-registration nursing experience (full-time or equivalent hours part-time) in an acute hospital setting, with one year in a surgical setting.Hold an up-to-date Basic Life Support course.Experience in Theatre, Urology, Gynaecology or Endoscopy is desirable.Additional competencies include: clinical knowledge and reasoning, evidence-based practice, safe and effective nursing care, planning and organization, teamwork, communication, empathy and respect, and commitment to ongoing professional development.Key ResponsibilitiesPractice Nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Clinical GuidelinesWork within scope of practice and maintain competence for professional practiceSupport Clinical Nurse Specialists in the development of the Gynaecology, Urology and Breast Health unitsOffer advice and support to patients and their familiesEnsure patients attending the Women’s Health Centre are fully informed and provided with verbal and written informationCollaborate with consultants to develop care pathways and implement best practice guidelinesMaintain a high standard of professional behaviour and accountability for practiceBe aware of ethical policies and procedures relevant to practiceRespect patient privacy, dignity and confidentialityFollow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structureClinical PracticeDeliver nursing care for an assigned group of patients within a best practice / evidence-based frameworkManage a designated caseloadPromote health, welfare and social wellbeing of patientsParticipate as a multi-disciplinary team member in service delivery including case conferences and meetingsAssess, plan, implement and evaluate person-centred care programmesDevelop good interpersonal relationships with patients and their familiesEnsure care is empathetic, ethical and respects patient dignity and spiritual needsSupport links with local community and discharge planningProvide education and information to patients and families and act as advocateReport and consult with senior nursing management on clinical issuesMaintain accurate nursing records and participate in clinical auditsPromote health concepts and contribute to health promotion initiativesClinical GovernanceParticipate in clinical governance structures within local/regional/national frameworksHave knowledge of HIQA and JCI standardsContribute to monitoring, audit and evaluation of the serviceRecord and report complaints according to policyDevelop policies and guidelines to ensure legal and safe practiceAdhere to health and safety, risk management and infection control guidelinesProvide leadership in the absence of the Clinical Nurse ManagerEducation, Training & DevelopmentTake responsibility for own competency and developmentComplete mandatory training as required by the Director of Nursing and NMBIParticipate in performance evaluation and develop improvement plansEngage in reflective practice and development of performance indicatorsAdministrationSafeguard and manage records per policy and legislationCoordinate with colleagues to provide seamless service deliveryMaintain records and report activity dataContribute to policy development, performance monitoring and budgetary controlMaintain professional standards including patient and data confidentialityDevelop information sharing protocols, audit systems, and care plansEnsure care setting is maintained with available supplies and equipment in good working orderReport malfunctions and assist with ordering suppliesUndertake other duties as required and support sustainability initiativesWhy work at Blackrock Clinic?We offer a supportive environment with opportunities for development and growth.
