Compensation Range$ $30.81--Job Description SummarySeasonal or conditional position that will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of road construction equipment and tools in construction, maintenance and repair activities of county roads, bridges, and culverts and will be required to perform a certain amount of manual labor. Health insurance benefits available for seasonal positions. Opportunities to obtain Commercial Motor Vehicle License while employed.--Job DescriptionField Work - 80%Basic knowledge of road construction/maintenance procedures, perform work with little direction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task.Perform work in a courteous and safe manner.Follow instructions from senior employees.Effectively communicate verbally through radio.When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous helpful attitude.Assist in moving equipment. Manual labor duties may be required.Administration - 10%Basic computer skills and the ability to report/record data as per departmental requirements.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public.Other Duties as Assigned - 10%Assist with snow desk, emergency operation responsibilities, and work extraordinary hours in such cases, including night-time hours, weekends, and/or holidays.Additional overtime duties may be required.Assist supervisor, foreman, and co-workers with assignments and tasks requiring independent and individual contribution.Not all duties mentioned may be applicable to every position, and the examples provided do not encompass all possible duties that may exist within this job classification.Percentages of time in the above job duty categories may fluctuate.--Required QualificationsRequired EducationHigh School Diploma/GEDExperience Qualifications5 years of experience for seasonal position and a working knowledge of medium sized and heavy equipment necessary for maintenance and construction activities used in servicing county roads and bridges located throughout the county including, towns, remote areas, and school zones. orConditional hire for full-time regular position. (Conditions will be outlined during pre-hire process for obtaining CDL A, tanker endorsement.)Preferred ExperienceExperience by Division for seasonal positions:Pavement Management Division:Working knowledge of asphalt, paving, milling, patching, crack seal and chip seal preferred.Road & Bridge Construction:Working knowledge of culvert maintenance, cattle guard installation or repairs and barrow ditch maintenance preferred.Gravel Roads Management:Equipment operator/roller experience preferred.Skills and AbilitiesAdd and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's. Perform these operations using units of money, weight, measurement, volume and distance.Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and make appropriate day to day decisions without supervisory guidance to perform assigned tasks.Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.Licenses and CertificationsCandidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date. RequiredThis position will participate in random substance use screening. RequiredValid regular Colorado driver's license by the employment start date and maintain a valid license for the duration of employment.Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee will regularly perform the following: sit, reach angularly, wrist flexion/extension, elbow flex/extension, supination/pronation, and grasp. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to hazards, temperature change, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures.
