Day Centre Manager - Waterford
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and advocating for the rights of people affected by dementia to quality supports and services. Our vision is an Ireland where people affected by dementia are valued and supported. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is a national non-profit organisation that is person centred, rights-based and grassroots led with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core. We are recruiting a Day Centre Manager to lead the Day Centre service in Pinegrove Day Care, Passage Road, Grange Upper, Waterford X91 ET10 who will report to the Operations Manager. This is a permanent contract working 35 hours per week.
To be successful in this role you will need experience in caring for the person with dementia. You will be required to have experience in Human Resource Management, Financial management, Quality standards and risk management. You will need good communication skills, be open and enthusiastic, have a positive attitude, lead by example, make staff feel valued, and be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. Responsibilities

Day Care Manager is responsible for providing best practice dementia specific care to all the clients in the Day Care Centre, promoting a person centered, community focused model of care and supporting carers.
Manage and guide all staff required to run the centre; responsibility for health and safety and administration of the day care centre.
Supervise, co-ordinate and support the work of all staff assigned to the centre, including carers, kitchen staff, bus drivers (when applicable) and escorts.
Ensure clear roles, appropriate duties, adequate staff-client ratios, and attendance records; arrange leave as needed.
Provide induction and ongoing training for new employees and volunteers; ensure policies and procedures are followed; conduct regular performance reviews.
Maintain accurate records of care plans, medications, and client incidents; ensure safe storage of medications in the centre.
Coordinate with Home Care Co-Ordinator/PHN regarding client requirements for day/home care; liaise with primary carers and family members as appropriate.
Deliver stimulating activities in a relaxed, homely environment and escalate nursing concerns to PHN as required.
Provide phone support and information to family carers; provide care support and education; arrange chiropody clinics and document payments.
Document client accidents/incidents or complaints and report to the Operations Manager and HR as necessary.
Organise and supervise administration for the centre, including billing data, statistics, and reports to the Operations Manager and HSE.
Maintain records and ensure compliance with food hygiene, medication administration, safety checks, and equipment maintenance.
Promote a culture of open learning; support staff and volunteers with ongoing training, QQI level 5 requirements, and relevant safety training.
Assist in placement of students for work experience and provide induction and supervision as required.
Coordinate with external partners to promote the service and participate in events, fundraising, and trainings as required.

Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience
ESSENTIAL

Degree or foreign equivalent (validated by QQI) in Nursing, Social Care, Applied Social Studies in Social Care, Applied Social Studies, or related field
At least 5 years' post qualification experience in health/social care or voluntary sector
At least 3 years of management experience in a similar role
Experience of working with people with complex needs in various settings
Demonstrated knowledge of the voluntary sector, older people issues and dementia
Full clean driving licence

DESIRABLE

Registered Nurse with NMBI or postgraduate qualification in Dementia; or equivalent social care qualification

Strong client focus: commitment to delivering high-quality person-centred care; empathy and respect for the rights of the individual with dementia; good observational skills.
Management: ability to supervise, manage and motivate a team; plan and manage change; excellent organisational skills; financial awareness and ability to operate within budget; ability to handle deadlines and multiple tasks.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; understanding of relevant legislation (Health and Safety, Employment law); comprehensive understanding of the Irish health system.

Other Requirements

Experienced computer user with strong MS Office skills
Patience, empathy, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm, and confidentiality
