Our client, a progressive and forward-thinking Top-tier Accounting and Advisory firm, is seeking an ambitious, high-achieving R&D Tax Director to join their expanding Tax Department. The Role
As a Director within the R&D Tax team, you will lead high-profile engagements, working closely with lead engineers and finance departments across a diverse portfolio of sectors. You will be the primary driver of high-quality claim delivery, ensuring all submissions to Revenue are optimized and technically robust.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership: Manage and mentor members of the R&D team, overseeing their technical development and career trajectory.
Client Relationship Management: Lead R&D meetings and build long-term relationships with clients, intermediaries, and professional networks to identify new business opportunities.
Technical Oversight: Identify qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through deep-dive technical and financial discussions.
Quality Assurance: Review technical and financial assessments prepared by the team to ensure they meet the highest standards of tax legislation and guidelines.
Financial Precision: Prepare and oversee complex financial calculations, liaising with internal and external tax teams to ensure computations accurately reflect technical assessments.
Strategic Growth: Actively promote the firm’s R&D tax offering and represent the practice at industry seminars, presentations, and networking events.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Subject Matter Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of R&D tax relief schemes and claim quantification, with the authority to sign off on technical reports and supporting costings.
Proven Track Record: Extensive experience managing multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced business unit.
Executive Presence: Comfortable liaising with C-suite stakeholders (MDs, FDs, CEOs, CTOs) across both SMEs and large-scale corporations.
Mentorship: A natural ability to train, coach, and supervise junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical/tax concepts into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.
Commercial Acumen: Highly proactive approach to business development and a strong awareness of market trends within the innovation tax landscape.
