About the Role:
This is a key on air position with Virgin Media News. The Mid Western Correspondent will be responsible for sourcing news in Limerick and the wider region and will be expected to be a highly visible ambassador for Virgin Media Television in the relevant counties. The successful candidate must be fully immersed in local issues in these counties and have a full understanding of the needs of Virgin Media Television viewers in the region. They must be able to deliver news to air in an authoritative and credible manner, be skilled story tellers in a broadcast and online environment and be dedicated to reporting the facts.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
* Tell compelling news stories in an authoritative, informative and credible manner
* Deliver stories that are factually accurate and legally watertight, especially when reporting from court
* Be fully engaged with the news agenda of the day, both local and national
* Support the news gathering operation by sourcing exclusive stories
* Bring forward ideas for future news coverage
* Contribute to the daily production of Virgin Media News bulletins
* Be a brand ambassador in the region for Virgin Media News and its values
* Be a role model for other journalists and production teams within the organisation
* Contribute to VM News Social media output
Skills & Expertise:
* A minimum of five years' experience in journalism at a senior level
* Credible and established on-air experience in live broadcasting
* First class broadcast reporting skills
* Court reporting experience
* A good news sense and eye for a story
* A comprehensive contacts book and network
* A strong track record of achievement
* Proven experience in dealing with breaking news stories
* Extensive experience in broadcast reporting and production
* A deep interest in and knowledge of Irish and international news and current affairs
* A thorough knowledge of all legal issues around news broadcasting
* Enthusiasm and energy for national broadcast news
* Understanding of – and engagement with – digital news platforms
* Full driving licence
