Microbiology Lab Manager
Job Responsibilities
As the Microbiology Lab Manager, you will lead the microbiology function in a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical facility, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient support for manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for managing a team of microbiologists and overseeing all laboratory testing activities to ensure product and environmental monitoring meet regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the microbiology laboratory.
* Overseeing testing programs for bioburden, endotoxin, sterility, and environmental monitoring.
* Ensuring all testing is performed in compliance with cGMP, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
* Developing and maintaining microbial control strategies for the site, including cleanroom qualification and routine environmental monitoring.
* Leading laboratory investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
* Driving continuous improvement initiatives in lab operations, quality systems, and safety.
* Coaching, mentoring, and developing the microbiology team, including performance management and training.
* Representing the microbiology lab in cross-functional meetings and regulatory inspections.
* Managing laboratory resources, including equipment qualification, maintenance, and procurement.
* Supporting method development, validation, and transfer activities.
* Ensuring adherence to the site’s safety policies and promoting a culture of safety and quality.
Who You Are
You are an experienced microbiology professional with strong leadership qualities and a passion for quality and compliance. You thrive in a fast-paced, regulated environment and are committed to developing your team and driving high standards. You are organized, analytical, and collaborative, with the ability to make sound decisions and influence others.
Where You Come From
You have a degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline, along with at least 8 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical microbiology environment, including leadership or supervisory experience. You have:
* In-depth knowledge of aseptic processing, contamination control, and regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, etc.).
* Experience managing microbiological testing programs, investigations, and audits.
* Strong technical expertise in microbiological methods and environmental monitoring.
* Excellent communication, team management, and problem-solving skills.
