Overview
Volunteer: Treasurer, Common Knowledge Group – Common Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Living CLG. Common Knowledge is a non-profit social enterprise based near Lisdoonvarna and the Wild Atlantic Way. Our mission is to share skills for a truly sustainable homelife and to support thousands more people to increase confidence, competence and community. The organisation relies on earned and grant income to fund activities and has secured funding from various bodies. The Common Knowledge Group consists of two entities: the parent company, Common Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Living CLG, and a wholly-owned subsidiary, Common Knowledge Activities Limited.
Role title: Treasurer, Common Knowledge Group. Voluntary Board Officer role, approximately 8 hours per month in addition to the Board Director role.
Terms and location: Board meetings are held monthly via Google Meet; annual in-person and online meetings may occur. Term of office is 3 years with possible renewal.
Purpose
The Treasurer is a steward of Common Knowledge’s financial wellbeing, ensuring resources are managed with integrity in service of the mission. The Treasurer fulfils governance, compliance and control functions and helps the organisation view finance as an enabler of resilience, trust and long-term flourishing for people, place and planet.
Key Responsibilities
* Stewardship of Resources — ensure financial practices are values-led, transparent and regenerative.
* Oversight & Governance — chair the Finance, Audit & Risk Subcommittee and foster a learning-focused culture beyond compliance.
* Represent the Subcommittee — act as the link between the subcommittee and the CK Board.
* Financial Health — monitor resilience, management accounts, cash flow, reserves and sustainability planning with insights on alignment with impact.
* Risk & Integrity — ensure internal controls and risk management processes balance prudence with boldness.
* Annual Accounts & Audit — guide preparation of accounts and financial reports that tell a clear story of stewardship and impact.
* Support & Partnership — work with Co-CEOs and bookkeeper to strengthen income generation and cost management.
* Connection to the Whole System — consider wider economic, ecological and social dynamics in decision making.
Person Specification
* Essential — Strong financial acumen with qualifications or equivalent experience.
* Experience of financial management.
* A values-driven approach committed to integrity, inclusion and sustainability.
* Ability to translate financial information into accessible insights for the Board.
* Willingness to contribute time, care and expertise (approx. 8 hours/month).
* Desirable — Familiarity with social enterprise/non-profits or regenerative practices.
* Interest in interconnections between financial, social and ecological systems.
* Experience working in collaborative, participatory or community-led settings.
Board Director Role
The Treasurer also serves as a Board Director for Common Knowledge. Voluntary Board Officer role is approximately 4 hours per month (outside officer duties).
General Duties
* Ensure Common Knowledge complies with its constitution, company law and relevant regulations.
* Contribute actively with strategic direction, policy, goals, targets and performance evaluation.
* Safeguard the good name and values of Common Knowledge and ensure effective administration.
* Protect and manage property and ensure proper investment of funds.
Board Meetings & Commitment
Board meets monthly via Google Meet. Quarterly in-person and online meetings with approximately 4 hours per month for Director role, plus remote monthly informal updates. Term is 3 years with renewal possible.
