Theidealcandidateisbothastrongtechnicalleaderandacollaborativepartner.Thisisaroleforsomeonewhothrivesonbalancingday-to-daydeliverywithteamleadershipinthecontextofoursmallwebteamof4people.Weareseekingsomeonewhocanbridgeproductandengineeringtoensurethatthewebteamdeliverschangesthatarecleanandrobust.
Responsibilities
Delivery:Directcycleplanning,prioritisation,andworkloadallocationforthewebteam,ensuringalignmentwithorganisationalgoals.Maintainmomentumonin-progresstasks,confirmcompletionstandardsaremet,andself-assigntaskswhereappropriate.
TeamLeadership:Provideleadershipandtechnicaldirectiontothewebteam,proactivelyremovingblockersandsupportingprofessionalgrowth.Coachteammembersontechnicalmatters,promoteknowledgesharing,andupholdacultureofcollaboration,accountability,andcontinuousimprovement.Participateintheon-callrotaduringhigh-demandorhigh-trafficperiods.
Maintenance&Improvement:Balancemaintenanceactivitieswithproductandeditorialpriorities.Monitorlogsandsystemalerts,addressingissuespromptly.Systematicallymanagetechnicaldebt,ensuredocumentationstandardsareupheld,andproposeimprovementstobothapplicationsandworkflows.
Collaboration:Conductregularreviewsofpullrequeststoensurecodequalityandadherencetobestpractices.Supportknowledgetransferthroughpairingandensemblesessions.Actasaliaisonbetweenengineering,product,design,andeditorialteamstoensureclarityofrequirementsandeffectivedelivery.
TechnicalOversight&Standards:Enforcerobustcoding,testing,anddeploymentpractices.Ensurestakeholderrequirementsaremet,designimplementationsmatchspecifications,andthatpost-releasemonitoringisinplacetodetectregressions.
Requirements
Provenexperienceinawebmanagementorseniortechnicalleadershiprole.
FluentinPHP,JavaScript,andtheecosystemoftechnologiesrequiredtobuildandmaintainmodern,scalablewebapplications.
Deepunderstandingofcodingstandards,testingmethodologies,deploymentpipelines,andmonitoringpractices.
Experienceworkingwithlegacycode,improvingcurrentfeaturesandintroducingnewfunctionalitywithoutdiscardingtheexistingbehaviourthatissometimesobscured.
Well-versedinsoftwareengineeringpracticessuchastest-drivendesign,refactoring,anddomain-drivendesign.
Demonstratedabilitytomanagetechnicalteams,deliverycycles,andcross-functionalcollaboration.
Experiencementoringdevelopersandcultivatingahigh-performanceengineeringculture.
Strongproblem-solvingskillsandaproactiveapproachtomanagingtechnicaldebtandsystemhealth.
