Location: Teagasc, Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. CorkResearchSalary: Post Doc (Level 1) with a Salary Scale of €44,569 to €48,895Closing Date: 20/02/2026 12:00 PMPost Doc Full TimeJob DescriptionDuration:Temporary Post-Doctoral Appointment. This is an externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 15 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.Basic Function:Methane emissions from enteric fermentation account for the majority of the Irish dairy sectors greenhouse gas emissions profile. Developing strategies to reduce methane output will be important in meeting Irish agricultures climate targets. In Irish pasture-based dairy systems, methane emissions vary with factors such as feed intake, seasonality, and pasture management. In addition, when anti-methanogenic technologies such as feed additives are applied, the methane abatement response may vary. Gaining a greater understanding of how these factors influence methane emissions under pasture-based conditions, as well as their interrelationships, will support the development of effective methane mitigation strategies. This competition seeks to recruit a post-doctoral fellow to quantify the primary pasture effects on methane emissions and determine the methane abatement response when feed additives are used in pasture-based systems. Background:This post is funded by the VistaMilk Research Centre ). The VistaMilk Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre represents a unique collaboration between Agri-food and information communications technology research institutes and leading Irish/multinational food and ICT companies. The position will be based at the Teagasc, Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork.
