About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Policy Officer to support a leading national professional body within the legal and regulatory sector. This role will drive policy development, stakeholder engagement, research, and strategic communications across key legislative and regulatory issues affecting the profession. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, committees, and external stakeholders to shape policy positions, monitor legislative developments, and support the organisation's public affairs strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Public Policy Development
* Conduct detailed analysis of legislative, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to the legal sector.
* Draft policy submissions, briefing documents, consultation responses, and reports.
* Support the organisation's committees with research, legislative tracking, and policy insights.
* Develop clear policy recommendations based on evidence, stakeholder feedback, and best practice.
Public Affairs & Stakeholder Engagement
* Maintain strong working relationships with government departments, regulatory bodies, parliamentary committees, and relevant NGOs.
* Support engagement strategies with policymakers and elected representatives.
* Prepare briefing materials for meetings, events, and consultations.
* Represent the organisation at external events, stakeholder forums, and consultations as required.
Strategic Communications & Advocacy
* Translate complex policy issues into accessible messaging for members and external audiences.
* Contribute to press materials, newsletters, policy updates, and advocacy campaigns.
* Manage messaging and positioning across emerging public policy issues.
Research & Monitoring
* Track parliamentary activity, public consultations, policy trends, and industry developments.
* Produce concise internal reports and updates for senior management and committees.
* Identify opportunities to influence policy discussions and shape national debate on relevant issues.
Skills & Experience Required
* 3–7+ years' experience in public affairs, public policy, government relations, or a related field.
* Strong understanding of the Irish legislative and political landscape.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with proven experience drafting policy submissions or government-facing documents.
* Ability to analyse complex legal or regulatory issues and present them clearly.
* Demonstrated experience working with government stakeholders or within a regulatory/professional environment.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
* Experience in the legal, regulatory, or professional services sector is an advantage but not essential.
