Overview of role
The Clinical Specialist position offers a unique opportunity to provide clinical leadership and expertise within an interdisciplinary team of specialists. It focuses on spinal MSK conditions and is offered on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
 * Clinical Leadership: Lead the spinal rehabilitation service, provide expert consultation, manage the rehabilitation pathway, and implement evidence‑based practice aligned with national guidance. Lead team meetings to inform, engage, and motivate staff; keep team updated on policies and strategies.
 * Rehabilitation: Develop and enhance local pathways for spinal rehabilitation patients; conduct advanced assessments and create individualized treatment plans; evaluate and implement outcome measures.
 * Management: Organise patient caseloads, support other therapists with complex cases, develop clinical standards for spinal rehabilitation, conduct service evaluations and audits, and schedule CPD for team members.
 * Staff Development: Support continuous professional development, provide in‑service training, coaching, supervision, and practical sessions; promote appraisal and performance reviews; organise postgraduate education and specialist courses.
 * Research & Development: Undertake and support research projects to enhance evidence base and improve patient care and service development in spinal rehabilitation.
 * Communication: Use advanced communication skills with patients and referrers, ensure confidentiality, facilitate clear communication within the multidisciplinary team, and maintain accurate record keeping.
Experience & Skills
 * 5 years post‑graduate experience.
 * Further qualifications or knowledge in spinal injuries and rehabilitation (and shoulder injuries).
 * Demonstrated ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team.
 * Ability to collaborate with medical staff, performance staff and biomechanists throughout rehabilitation.
 * Demonstrated clinical reasoning to assess issues, recommend appropriate actions.
 * Excellent communication and presentation skills.
 * Good injury prevention and treatment knowledge; understanding of strength and conditioning principles.
 * Capability to analyse and summarise research related to spinal injuries and rehabilitation.
Desirable Knowledge
 * Experience working with sporting organisations.
 * Proficiency using testing equipment for spinal rehabilitation.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree or equivalent.
 * MSc Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science.
Registrations
Candidate must be a member of CORU and an ISCP member.
