Douglas Control & Automation are hiring a Senior Automation Engineer to join our ever growing secondment team in Co. Mayo. The Senior Automation Engineer will manage large, complex automation projects and automation process improvements activities across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the execution of complex automation and controls initiatives.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
* Ensure delivery targets for safety, cost, schedule, and quality are achieved.
* Develop and maintain a long-term strategy for control system platforms, ensuring sustainability, upgrade pathways, and future capability
* Act as the primary technical reference for control systems across the facility, covering PLCs, industrial communications, HMI/SCADA, data historians, batch platforms, robotics, and machine vision
* Drive the creation and approval of automation standards, specifications, and design reviews for new equipment, processes, and production lines
* Represent site-level controls expertise within global or cross-site technical working groups
* Provide coaching and technical development support to less experienced engineers in both controls engineering and project delivery
* Work closely with other engineering disciplines to define integrated design solutions for large capital investments
* Lead initiatives to enhance reliability, availability, and resilience of existing control system architectures
* Improve system behaviour and diagnostics to better detect, report, and respond to abnormal operating conditions
* Establish and promote best practice standards for documentation, software lifecycle management, and project delivery
Skills & Experience:
* Degree Qualified (essential) in Automation, Mechatronics, Computer/Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* 10 years plus experience in the design, maintenance and support of control systems
* 3+ years experience in project management
* Strong PLC and HMI programming skills required, first-hand experience with Allen Bradley, Intouch, RSBatch, Fanuc, Kuka and vision systems a distinct advantage.
