Overview

The Business Post Group is a diversified media group with a strong technology, data, digital and experience-driven portfolio of businesses. The flagship brand of the Business Post sits at the centre of the group and is now a seven day a week, always-on media platform. Businesspost.ie has become essential reading for business, politics, economics and current affairs commentary, analysis and opinion in Ireland. The company now wishes to hire an experienced political correspondent with an established track record.

Reporting to the editor, through the head of news, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the sourcing, organising and writing of daily content on Businesspost.ie and for our weekly print product.

Role type: Full-time/permanent

Location: Dublin, Ireland


Responsibilities

* Working in a fast-paced digital-first news organisation and delivering quality content on a quick turnaround basis to a very high standard.
* Delivering agenda-setting reporting, commentary and analysis on government policy, events at Leinster House and other issues of national importance, with particular emphasis on issues affecting Ireland’s business community.
* Reporting in advance on weekly Cabinet meetings.
* Managing and curating weekly political diaries, newsletters and blogs for internal and external use.
* Critically analysing national and global political events, with an eye to how those events impact the Irish economy.
* Managing and curating the coverage of regular RED C opinion polls.
* Some domestic and foreign travel when required.


Qualifications

* A Masters’ degree in journalism, business, communications, law, politics or a related field.
* At least three years’ experience working in Leinster House as a political correspondent/reporter.
* Experience in writing for an online publication.
* A strong pedigree in breaking exclusive stories online and in print, a strong contacts book and good attention to detail.
* Experience in the publishing of newsletters.
* An up to date working knowledge of Irish defamation law.
* Ability to work in a team and to help develop and nurture talent within the newsroom.
* Flexible attitude and approach to tasks, including working flexible media/shift hours.
