OverviewHead Data42 Data Management & Data Products – Novartis Ireland. Location: Basel, Switzerland or Dublin, Ireland.Data42 is Novartis’s data and analytics platform, enabling integration of data modalities (discovery, preclinical, clinical, Real World Data) at scale to support data-driven decision making. The Head of Data Engineering and Data Products will design, build and maintain data solutions using Palantir Foundry and will foster AI/GenAI use to accelerate data delivery and democratize access to data and insights. This role is a member of the Data42 Leadership Team and reports to the Global Head of Data42, with a team of approximately 50 internal and external members.This role collaborates with stakeholders across the Data and Digital Organization and Novartis to deliver high-quality data and data products rapidly.
Your responsibilitiesDefine the vision and lead the cross-functional Data Engineering and Data Products team, staying current with emerging technologies.Architect, design, maintain and optimize complex data pipelines to support data exploration, operational workflows and advanced analytics.Ensure best practices for data ingestion, processing, validation, transformation and storage.Implement processes that guarantee data quality, integrity, security, compliance and discoverability across platforms.Advance the use of automation and AI to accelerate the quality, speed and breadth of data delivery.
Data ProductsDesign, build and operate scalable data product solutions using agentic workflows on Palantir Foundry to democratize data access with future needs in mind.Establish and enforce security and compliance policies to safeguard data access and dissemination.Collaborate across the Data and Digital Organization and Novartis to ensure timely delivery and alignment of activities with timelines.
Delivery And OperationsDefine and track key metrics for data systems and product success.Oversee project planning, delivery and ongoing support for data engineering and product development.Drive continuous improvement by monitoring system performance, analyzing product data and responding to feedback.
Essential RequirementsPhD or master’s degree in computer science or related discipline with 10–15+ years of pharma or biotech experience (R&D preferred).Experience in data management, data engineering and data modeling across data domains; Clinical and Real World Data experience preferred.Knowledge of CDISC data models/standards (SEND, SDTM, ADaM) and RWD data models/standards (OMOP).Experience with cloud platforms and cloud-based data/AI/ML solutions (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, AWS SageMaker).Strong strategic, enterprise mindset with a view to end-to-end data-driven decision making.Proven global cross-functional leadership, coaching and talent development; ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
