Currently, approximately 30,000 staff work within the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region, providing key health and social care services with a budget of €3 billion. The region has 4 Integrated Health Areas, serving a population of around 300,000.

The Safeguarding & Protection Team operates under the Older Persons Social Care group and is also a key part of Disability and Older Persons’ Services.
The team addresses concerns of abuse related to vulnerable adults, following the HSE Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse – National Policy & Procedures, 2014. It provides services for individuals with physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities, or those over 65 needing support. The team engages with these groups where there are concerns of abuse or exploitation by third parties.
The team’s roles include:
* Promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults
* Providing advice and support to professionals and services (disability and nursing home services) regarding concerns of abuse
* Receiving referrals and reports concerning adults at risk
* Assessing indicators of abuse
* Responding to reports of abuse
* Developing safeguarding interventions and reviewing their effectiveness
* Collaborating with relevant agencies to address welfare issues
* Contributing to multiagency training
* Maintaining records, statistics, and reports
The Safeguarding & Protection Team currently includes a Principal Social Worker, 2 Social Work Team Leaders, 5 Professionally Qualified Social Workers, a Business Manager, and an Administrative Staff. The team covers the Laois/Offaly/Longford/Westmeath region.

To deliver the HSE’s commitment to promoting the protection, welfare, and safeguarding of vulnerable persons from abuse.
